PROJECT:

Marriotts Walk is at the heart of Witney and formed a mixed-use extension to the town centre combining the character of the historic town centre with new facilities and features. This development includes 20 retail / leisure units, cinema 136 residential apartments, children’s playground and 660 space multi-storey car park.

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

Simons were the project architect through the project and was the BREEAM assessor.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The primary project aim was the sensitive development of the existing site to provide ma new modern retail and leisure experience, whilst being sympathetic to the surrounding urban context and achieving high environmental sustainability objectives. The existing town features a number of small shops and traditional market square. Subsequently the primary aim for this development was to compliment and expand upon this local vernacular and narrative. The mix of elements is essential for the success of the project reinforcing the Town Sensitive design has created a Scheme that delivers high quality large retail spaces with an appropriated visual presence. The environmental issues have been a fundamental consideration. These have generated a commercially sustainable scheme that has satisfied the high demands of the Local Authority and is more attractive to the enlightened retailers.
