PROJECT:

Development of Retail Park, which includes the following key design aspects;

  • Native landscape planting

  • SUDs designed hard landscaping scheme

  • Integrated bird boxes

  • Large cycling provision

  • Liaison with local crime advisors

  • Roof mounted PV meeting 20% of regulated energy demand

  • Specification to maximise Mat 01 credits and responsibly sourced materials including timber, high recycled content and GGBS cinder track public right of way alongside the site.

  • Embodied carbon footprint used as part of value engineering

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

Simons were the project architect through the project and was the BREEAM assessor.

SUSTAINABILITY:

This scheme was assessed as a shell development under 2014 scheme more than one year after completion to meet requirements of a new development owner and achieved a Very Good rating of 69.2% (Cert 0059-6619).

This is a significant achievement considering the site was designed and constructed to meet a tenant requirement for BREEAM 2008 as part of the developer’s obligations. The 50,000 sq ft M&S Unit which was assessed with fit out to BREEAM 2008 and achieved Excellent rating 74.5% (Cert 0057-6215). The Boots Unit independently achieved BREEAM 2011 Excellent rating 70.3% (Cert 0050-3391) led by their design architect (also Simons Design).
